Australian Paralympic alpine development team set to leave Australia and head to IPC Nor-Am Cup on December 5, ahead of the December 10 start of the event with the team having been chosen two months prior. According to national team coach Steve Graham and Australian Paralympic Committee General Manager of Knowledge Services Tony Naar, this will be the first major event for the team in the northern hemisphere skiing season, with the whole team being there in preparation for qualifying for the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games. The team includes standing skiersMitchell GourleyToby Kane and Cameron Rahles-Rahbula, vision impaired skiers Melissa Perrine with guide Andrew Bor and Jessica Gallagher with guide Eric Bickerton, development team members Jono Walsh with guide Jono Wong, Mark Soyer, Lincoln Budge, Stuart Hume and Victoria Pendergast, and snowboarders Trent Milton, Matthew Robinson, Jason Sauer and Damien Thomlinson. This will be the first major international event for Australia's snowboarders, with classification guidelines only formally evolving for IPC approval earlier this year.
Vision impaired skier Jono Walsh competes with guide Jono Wong. Walsh continues on the team after having been a member during the 2011 season. Wong goes into the IPC Nor-Am Cup with several competitions as an individual competitor and member of development teams under his belt. He competed at the Australian Interschool SnowSport Championships, and was a member of the Victorian Junior Development Squad Camp and Australian National Development Team.

While serving with the 2nd Commando Regiment in Tarin Kowt District in April 2009, the vehicle he was in drove over an improvised explosive planted by the Taliban, which resulted in multiple injuries including his legs being amputated. He is attempting to qualify for the 2014 Winter Paralympics.
Following the IPC Nor-Am Cup, the team will next come together for the March 2013 Winter Paralympics test event in Sochi, Russia.
